China’s government has a China Internet Information Office, that regulates and monitors Internet traffic to allow only legal activities for its citizens and netizens. What is legal or illegal may not be entirely clear and may be subject to change. Email is considered something that is blockable. 2 of the most popular ones around the world, Yahoo Mail and Gmail, are both unavailable in China::

- Yahoo To Close China Email Service In August (2013)
Since I’m in the USA, I don’t know what’s allowed and what’s not available in China. Maybe outlook.com or hotmail.com? Here’s some alternatives to Gmail and Yahoo Mail:

- mail.com
- inbox.com
- gmx.com
- mail.aol.com
Can someone out there recommend other good internationally-accessible free email services?
