Greetings from We 3 Chuang’s

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! We are so grateful for you being a part of our lives along the way. This is the 3 of us at Jeremiah’s commencement ceremony a couple weeks ago at Biola University, graduating with a Math major. Scroll down for each of our first-person narrative.

DJ

2018 rolled out rhythmically with an abundance of good activities and experiences. On the highlight reel was the launching of the Erasing Shame podcast (erasingshame.com) on Facebook, YouTube, and iTunes. Almost every week since February, we had honest talk about healthy living—emotionally, relationally, mentally, and personally. Plus, on the special summer series, Erasing Shame about Mental Health in Asian American communities, my son Jeremiah adeptly hosted all the interviews.

I got 2 opportunities at Saddleback Church to share my story of struggles in 2017 (djchuang.com/my2017). And, my work with the .BIBLE top-level domain continues into its 6th year, which included a business trip nearly every month. My favorite part is going to conferences and connecting with all kinds of people and new ideas.

Very grateful for your friendship, a healthy year, and the overflow of God’s grace manifested in so many ways. I’d love to hear what’s happening in your world. Drop me a line any time @ djchuang.com/contact.

RACHELLE

I am now going on my 10th year as an art and graphic design teacher at several schools! God has given me much fruit and I enjoy being creative every day with a wide variety of students. I also had a solo art show at Concordia University in Irvine and have colleagues, fellow artists, friends and students over to print letterpress posters in my garage. I call it “print hospitality” and find I can connect and have engaging conversations in this way. I also was involved in 4 small groups this past year including BSF, our Saddleback Church small group, a faculty fellowship group and I lead a designer’s small group through Saddleback Visual Arts ministry. We also started a brand new Chuang tradition. Since we’ve hosted 13 hour Lord of the Rings marathons in the past, we decided every New Year’s to do a Bible Binge, which is much better for your soul than binging Netfix. We all love and support The Bible Project videos and podcasts so we watched the entire OT and NT videos in 12 hours to gain God’s full story in His Word. We encourage you to support their translations needed in many more languages. We are very proud of Jeremiah who graduated from Biola in Math and the Torrey Honors Institute in 3.5 years and has grown to be a servant leader through Biola and serving in his college group. We praise God for his intellect, humility. love for people and servant’s heart.

Blessings in 2019 upon you our friends and family!

JEREMIAH

This year I enjoyed my last semesters at Biola, including living in my first apartment. I enjoy cooking, especially with extra garlic. I also met some inspiring people who impact the world for Jesus. I want to do likewise.  I am excited to depend on Christ the Word for this transition from school to work. I am taking a gap year of 18 months before grad school. During the time I hope to save up money and explore missions opportunities domestic and abroad. I will work at Robert Half staffing agency as a data entry clerk, with tutoring on the side. I continue to enjoy serving at Saddleback Irvine South as a greeter and a student leader for the college ministry. Last, I will continue using my God-given talents to learn curiously, especially studying for the GRE and studying data science in Python.
