The format that has endured decades of television viewers is the talk show. For whatever reasons, these kinds of shows remain popular with sizable audiences. Most of the talk show format have a single host (the likes of Oprah, Jimmy Fallon, Ellen, Stephen Colbert). Television networks broadcast these in daytime and late night time slots (ed.note: even though we’re in an on-demand streaming world.)

Then, there’s a smaller subset that have a small group of co-hosts. The genesis of this panel talk show format was The View, which has aired for 22 seasons and over 4,000 episodes. This format has inspired other shows too, as listed below.

The View is an American talk show that was conceived by broadcast journalist Barbara Walters. It has aired on ABC as part of the network’s daytime programming block since August 11, 1997. The show features a multi-generational panel of women, who discuss the day’s “Hot Topics” such as sociopolitical and entertainment news. The Talk debuted on October 18, 2010, on CBS. The show features a panel of five women discussing the day’s latest headlines, while usually tying in the show’s theme of motherhood or at least parenthood, such as by giving their opinions “through the eyes of mothers.” It also contains celebrity interviews and segments for mothers and parents in general.
