it’s not about Rick either

For the record, I like Rick Warren better than Bill Hybels. Why? Because Rick gives me hugs. 🙂

Now that marriage has become purpose-driven, along with Life and Church and Youth Ministry.. what’s next? Not just in the purpose-driven series, but in the Baptist machinery? Some of you may be able to recall the whole waves of bandwagoning with Experiencing God (Henry BlackabyUprising – already being rallied around by Promise Keepers‘ this-year-go-around?

DJ: Good point. Hang around the church long enough and the cycles seem frightenly familiar. Before Experiencing God there were countless trends that I remember dating back to the 1970’s, and that is only because my memory only goes back that far. It is a double-edged sword. Some of those trends were a force in my life, and yet they also reinforced a negative reliance on others (CBA, “the smart guys”, whomever) to do the work of spiritual formation for us. Let’s pray that the substantive tone of the emerging church continues, and that it does not devolve into another bygone trend.

    My money is on McManus.

Although a huge wave of Dallas Willard stuff in the evangelical church wouldn’t be a bad thing either …
