input wanted for accounting church software
A good number of you expressed interested in an accounting and database software for small churches that is under development by some people I know of. Here’s an update from Dan Kelly, who’d like to have input “from people before the software is complete to ensure it meets their needs”:

Subject: Aplos Software Blog UpdateWe searched for over a year to find a simple accounting software package designed for small churches. We could not find one so we decided to build our own. We began by brainstorming about things that frustrate us about the current offerings: too complex, too many functions that I don’t need, etc. We have set out to create a product that overcomes those issues.
Our software engineers are cruising along and have made tremendous progress. We plan to have a product out this fall.
Before they finish the software I would love to hear some of your horror stories about your current software so we can avoid those pitfalls and create software that meets your needs.
Thank you for your interest and support for our project.

I wasn't one of the ones that initially expressed interest, definitely am. Quickbooks has been a great accounting solution for us. However, the database part would be awesome. It would be cool if the components were stand alone (for churches who already have a system for 1 of those areas of need) or could be bundled together.
We use IconCMO church software for fund accounting. Try http://www.iconcmo.com
Thank you for your interest and input. What features would you like to see in a database program?
Did you have any features or functions you specifically want/ don't want in your software?
Thanks,
Dan
To be honest, we're pretty new at this stuff. We've looked at several of the available options. Cost is obviously a consideration for us as a church plant. Our parent church uses Fellowship One, and it was just overkill for us. Something web based. Simple and powerful. It would be nice if from the main database, groups could be formed for tracking small groups – allow small group leaders to login and maintain their group information. Anyway, those are my initial thoughts….
What program are you using to do your accounting and how do you like it? Is it simple and straight forward?
Thanks,
Dan
Sorry, wrong post. What do you like about Quickbooks? How important are features like check printing? Are you using an online version?
Thanks,
Dan
We are not using an online version (I don't think). We do our own check printing now. Personally, I'm not familiar with Quickbooks, I do know that our bookkeeper is a fan though. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
