Asian Americans going to extremes

in a recent conversation (via email), someone I’ll name Clyde, is writing me, saying that 2nd generation (2g) Asian Americans usually go to the extremes of either shunning their Asian culture and heritage, or create their own Asian American subculture.. what am I supposed to do with a dichotomistic comment like that? in my life and experience, as a 2g, I do not find us/them to be extremist — neither shunning Asian culture, nor crafting a new subculture. Most of us are trying to live life, make ends meet, please their parents, while fulfilling some (or all) of their dreams, and have some fun along the way (not necessarily in that order).. sometimes I wonder if I oughta get tired of brokering in stereotypes or groupspeak, and advocate people treating people like people and recognize that every person is an individual and can choose their own behaviors and ideas from a huge plethora of options.. oh! I missed the webbies last night, got tired early and went to bed.. (and why did they have to pick Sam Donaldson? it would’ve been much more fun with a Chris Berman)
