I’ve mirrored the sermon here to share the load (bandwidth load) — Guy Kawasaki (formerly the Mac evangelist, now a Top 50 Technorati blogger and venture capitalist) recommended a sermon this past weekend on his blog that usually sticks to tech and business fare. He took a little heat for it. He even overloaded a server, as the sermon MP3 was unavailable for some time.

The sermon is titled “Jesus & Your Job” and delivered by Nancy Ortberg at Menlo Park Presbyterian Church (PCUSA). (Hope I don’t get a cease and desist.)

  1. [...] There’s a sermon I listened to earlier today that spoke to me greatly in this subject. Thanks DJ! One thing from the sermon struck me a lot was the need of affirmation. It’s not just things like “oh, you have done a good job!” It’s genuine thanksgiving and the appreciation of the worker being part of this greater purpose. Another thing that I learned was the “people” aspect of work. We are here working not for the sake of working, but for the sake of relationships and the corporate pursue of a higher purpose – the value of individuals not as disposable and replaceable assets, but as valuable human beings that are wonderfully created by God. And neither of these two attributes exists in my current jobs. [...]

  2. I managed to watch this sermon before it went down and thought it was incredibly encouraging. While it’s sort of cliche to talk about work, business and management as being about relationships , in the greater context of the nobility of service and how we should admonish one another towards value-rich service it really drives that point home.
