Heard Tim Keller recently teach from Romans 7-8 on the evil hideousness of the human heart, with its unconquerable desire for an object, which usually is an idol. That’s the way the heart works. We’re all yearning for and/or holding on to something.

So you have to replace that desire with a better desire, the best desire, in Jesus Christ. In the punch line, Keller phrased it as: “Expulsive replacement rejoicing in Jesus in the face of your particular idols.” This was based on Thomas Chalmers’ famous sermon, “Expulsive power of a new affection.” That’s the key to get to the sin beneath the sin.

Having been away on travels for practically 2 weeks, with another 2 trips in the coming week, it’s been a different rhythm this month. Great to meetup with a number of people along the way. 3 meetings to prepare for, including this presentation on revitalizing Asian American churches on Wed 9/26, so blogging may be light.
