The evangelical church in America is the primary institution perpetuating institutional racism today.

Why?

Most local, evangelical churches are racially segregated; 11:00 am remains the most segregated hour in the land, and the percentage of time evangelical Christians spend relationally with others from their local church is 75-80%. Therefore, evangelical Christians are relationally segregated as well.

The Point?

Without ethnically and economically diverse relationships, we cannot understand.
Without understanding, we are less likely to get involved.
Without involvement, nothing changes.
Thus, the system is perpetuated.

Thoughts summarized from Michael Emerson and Christian Smith, Divided By Faith: Evangelical Religion and the Problem of Race in America
