one thing i’m learning, is that being mostly unconventional (and from other’s perspective, extremely unconventional), i am very unpredictable in work habits.. and i have many varied interests, in what i do with my life, and what i want to do with my job(s).. humanly speaking, it does make sense to have one devotion and one focus for efficiency and effectiveness, but for me, to do one thing is confining and leads to boredom.. this means the more traditional/conventional minded person would have quite a challenge working with me, when attempting to put me into a box, when i’m such an out of the box person.. thus my conundrum…. if it were possible, i’d have a position where i can use my technical skills, pastoral skills, and personal networking skills, to do my part in forming spirituality among Asian Americans, multiethnic, and postmodern realms.. i don’t think it can be done in one lifetime, and in that sense i don’t expect it to be.. but to translate that into real life, into a job description, that’s been the enigma.. perhaps it is a vision, and needs to birth an organization or book or something, as disparate as these themes are.. so be it, that is me :)

on a lighter note, received my blogger t-shirt and was sporting it at Washington Harbor, for the inaugural Dragon Boat Races.. haven’t been around so many Asians in a while, quite a peculiar feeling.. (so if you saw a guy with a bright orange “b”, that was me)

it’s nice to see all

it’s nice to see all the rage and press about blogs.. i’m surprised (but maybe shouldn’t be surprised) by the comments I hear from some about why would a person blog, or feeling like “I’ve got nothing to say”.. we all have something to say, a story to tell, a story to share (especially those who are Christians, who are now a part of the metanarrative, the big story of History), and it’s a tragedy and travesty to cork it up and tell no one. I’m a firm believer that life is about sharing life stories; doing things and buying things, anybody can do that. But sharing stories, man, that’s where life is at..

co-worker was using a pop-up ads and banner ads stopper software, which I first thought was free, but found out it costs under $20 to register after free trial.. it’s the best one out there!

weekend jaunt to NYC

took a weekend jaunt to New York City, this time a round trip drive.. about 5 hours each way, including traffic.. it was a nice fun family time, and we got quite the Priceline deal to stay at the midtown Hilton. the real treat was getting to attend Redeemer Presbyterian Church, where Tim Keller masterfully taught from the Psalm about spiritual disipline and grace. His message hit so many poignant points, one of which is the shallow (and albeit prevalent) cliche of Romans 8:28, “All things work together for the good of those who love God.” This verse does NOT mean every thing is good when something happens, especially bad things to good people; nor is this verse saying that when bad things happen that there’s something good hidden behind it, as if it were some blessing in disguise. Cliche. Simplistic. Wrong. The promise of this verse is that when all of life’s events is taken together, all of it has worked towards producing something good and beautiful and joyful in those of us who love God.
